Melbourne botan. Garden,
16 Apr. 1871.
Sir
In reply to your letter of the 11. April
1
M. Clarke to M, 11 April 1871 (in this edition as 71-04-11c).
I beg of you to inform the Committee of the industrial Museum, that I will respond to the call of delivering a lecture on the 22 June next, if my health, which has not been firm for some time, becomes not more impaired. The subject, which I shall select, will be:
"Forest-culture in it relation to industrial pursuits."
I beg to connect with this promise the condition, that such illustrations, perhaps xylographic, as I may deem necessary for the elucidation of the subject may be printed and any other expenditure, which may be necessary for the lecture, may be defrayed out of the lecture fund. I need scarcely add, that no unreasonable demands for these purposes will be made, by the artists, which I may employ.
2
MS annotation: 'RR 18 April Expenses if not too heavy to be paid'.
I have the honor to be
your obedient
Ferd. von Mueller
3
M's lecture was delivered as scheduled and subsequently published; see B71.07.02, B71.13.03.
Marcus Clarke Esq
&c&c&c
Secretary to the Industrial Museum Committee.
