Melbourne botanic Garden,
24/3/71
Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your circular, N. 969,
and I shall prepare at once for the honorable the Commissioner of public Works a statement
of the public works required for the botanic Garden during the coming financial year;
but before sending in my statement it would be necessary for me to learn whether my
last requisitions for public works, except that for the large tank,
are likely to receive the approval of the hon. the Chief Secretary.

Circular No. 965, 24 February 1871, distributed to department heads within the Chief
Secretary's Department, asks that the Public Works Department be informed without delay of works and buildings
required during the 1871-2 financial year.

M's request for additional public works in M to J. McCulloch, 25 March 1871 (in this
edition as 71-03-25c) was sent after 'having received information that my [previous] requisitions for
public works … have received your approval'. A written notice to this effect has not
been found.
I have the honor to be Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Director
The Undersecretary.
