Since you left, dear Dr Lewellyn, I have reflected further on your kind proposition
to send under the care of your nephew something to England, and selected two very
rare plants, which I would be glad to see conveyed by the young Gentleman to Kew.
Dr Hooker will be very glad to receive these 2 plants for the Royal Garden of Kew,
where they could be multiplied from cuttings, if once there.

Neither the nephew
n
or the plants, if sent, have been identified.
All that your nephew would require to do is this, to sprinkle daily a little fresh
water over the plants and to place them in a spot of his cabin, where they have
some
light. On a still day he could take the plants occasionally out on deck in the morning
and evening, but not to expose them to a strong midday heat.
With best regard
Ferd von Mueller
Will you some day favor me with your photogram for the series of pictures of my scientific
friends, and I will gladly send my poor one in exchange.

There is a photograph of Lewellin in M's only surviving album at MEL; see M to J. Haast, 29 July 1862 (in this edition as 62-07-29b) and notes thereto.
