Melbourne botan. Garden,
10./2/71
Sir
I have the honor to bring under your favorable consideration, that Overseer Wilson
of the Industrial Schools performs the duty of bringing and fetching the boys to and
from the botanic Garden, being thereby necessitated to walk four times daily over
the ground. This is such a great additional tax on the time of that Officer as to
induce me to recommend a gratuity to be given to him, and if this proposition meets
with your approval, I would beg to suggest the sum of five pounds Sterling as appropriate
up to this time, and that such sum may be paid out of the incidental fund of the botanic
Garden.
I have the honor to be, Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Director botan. Garden.
The honorable The Chief Secretary
