Correspondent assumed to be J. Hooker as the letter is informing Kew that plants had
been sent. There is no other similar letter addressed to another Kew officer. MS annotation at head of letter: 'ansd thanked and list returned 19/4/71 J.S.' [John Smith (1821-88)].

The Capt. of the Ship "Geo. Thompson" has been so kind to promise to look after a
small case full of plants, intended for you;
or rather his wife is to exercise the vigilance over them. Be so kind to send for
the case, when the Ship arrives in London.
