Seit langer Zeit, verehrter Herr Doctor, hat mir keine Zuschrift über irgend eine Pflanze Australiens so viel Freude gemacht als Ihre Notize über in den mit letzter Monatspost angelangten Verhandlungen des Brandenburger Vereins. Mit dieser guten Basis nun werden in allen Theilen der Erde die Arten einer neuen Untersuchung zu unterwerfen sein, u. für Australien soll es von mir geschehen.

Ich bin ganz besonders stolz darauf, dass Sie der einen in Australien vorkommenden Art meinen Namen aufprägten, da diese Pflanze als Nahrungsmittel für die Eingeborenen sehr wichtig ist, u. so — abgesehen von andern Verhältnissen — einen besondern Werth hat. In unserm industriellen Museum u. in der Sydney Ausstellung habe ich die Stärke, welche die Wurzel von der liefert, reichlich aufgestellt.

Sie werden sicher seither die sämtlichen Exemplare meiner Sammlung durch die freundliche Vermittlung des Hr Dr W. Sonder erhalten haben, u da Sie nun auch dem Genus Ihre Aufmerksamkeit zuwenden wollen, werde ich Ihnen auch die Exemplare meines Herbariums senden zur gütigen Besichtigung.

Für die Ehre, welche Sie mir durch die Benennung der erwiesen, werde ich mich dankbar bezeigen u Ihren geehrten Namen u damit den eines der hoffnungsvollsten Pflanzenbeobachters dieser Zeit, auf eine schöne neue Pflanze des Australlandes bleibend übertragen.

For quite a long time, esteemed Doctor, no communication on any Australian plant has given me as much pleasure as your note on in the Verhandlungen des Brandenburgischen Vereins, which arrived with the last mail. With such a good basis, all the species of the world need to be re-examined, and for Australia this shall be done by me.

I am particularly proud that you attached my name to a species occurring in Australia,

muelleri was described in Rohrbach (1869), p. 95, which despite its title being 'Ueber die europäischen Arten der Gattung ' also dealt with some extra-European species, some of which were cosmopolitan.

as this plant is very important to the Aborigines as food, and so, — apart from anything else, — is of particular value. In our industrial museum and in the Sydney Exhibition I have amply demonstrated the starch produced in the root of the .

See Intercolonial Exhibition (1870), p. 63, which lists an exhibit of starch from Muelleri shown by M.

I am sure you will have received by now all the specimens of my collection through the kind agency of Dr. W. Sonder,

and as you now intend to turn your attention to the genus , I shall also send you the specimens from my herbarium for your kind examination.
