This letter was referred back to M on 5 October 1870, minuted: 'discharge according to seniority'. It was returned to the Chief Secretary's Office on 14 October, then forwarded again to M on 19 October minuted 'C. S. will arrange for transfer of 50 boys on Monday next'. M to J. McCulloch, 12 October 1870, pointed out the difficulty of complying with dismissal by seniority.
