As yet, dear Mr Archer, I have not got the clear writing of my evidence for revision.
1
The Royal Commission appointed to enquire into the state of the Public Service and working of the Civil Service Act was established on 8 August 1870 and reported on 18 April 1873. M was examined on 14 September 1870; for his evidence see 'Report of the Royal Commission appointed to inquire into the state of the public service’, in Victoria. Parliamentary Papers. Votes and Proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, 1873, vol. 2 (No. 10), pp. 40-4. Witnesses to such Commissons were normally given a draft of their evidence to correct misinterpretations by the shorthand writer. Archer was one of the Commissioners.
I was very poorly at the afternoon of my attendance and thus it is all the more necessary that I should revise the evidence and append a supplement if necessary.
With Kind regards
Ferd. von Mueller
