I ought to have written to you, dear Dr Story, long before this, to acknowledge the safe arrival of the sedges, grasses, waterplants &c which you so kindly secured this year. I was so much harrassed in my department, that I could really not gain the time for any exclusively botanical matters, this being the planting season and my time much occupied, especially since the Department became so much disorganized.
Your collection contains the rare , J Hooker, besides new localities for Ricinocarpus
2
Ricinocarpos? In Story's hand (3182) above Ricinocarpus.
pinifolius [Desfont.], RBr, Hierochloa
3
Hierochloe? In Story's hand 755 Gram. dysarrhenum Lab 83-t332) above Hierochloa. The reference is to a discussion of a grass [Gramineae abbreviated?], Disarrenum antarcticum, in Labillardère (1804-06), vol 2, p. 83 and plate 232.
rariflora J Hook., and a few other. So I hope you will feel sufficiently encouraged to watch the plants around you.
Let me hope your health is firm & your mind cheerful.
With best regards
Ferd. von Mueller.
I hope you got the Cork Oaks &c &c safely through Mr Abbotts mediation
