Sir
I have the honor to inform you, that the Audit-Commissioners have asked me to adjust
the advance, which was made for gravelling at Toorak in 1867, a duty which I then
undertook on behalf of the Lands Department.
The expenditure is in reality long ago adjusted, but the adjustment has seemingly
yet to pass through some official form. For this the papers, which were (— as far as I am aware —) transmitted to the Department of the hon. the Chief Secretary,
are needed, and I beg therefore to enquire, whether these documents are still accessible
at your Office, and could be sent to me, with a view of fulfilling the requirements
of the audit commissioners.
1
For background, see M to J. Grant, 9 August 1867 (in this edition as 67-08-09a), and M to Hemry C. Manners-Sutton, 9 August 1867.
2
M has added a marginal note at this point, marked by an asterisk: '29 June 1868'.
3
The files were at the the Lands Office, and were forwarded to M in response to M to
E. Agg, 21 June 1870.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller, M.D.,
Direct. botan. Garden.
The Undersecretary
