The amount for 'Stores, timber, Bricks and stationery' voted by Parliament for 1869
was £350; for 1870 £250 was approved (Victoria.
Votes and proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, session 1869, vol. 1, p. 50; session 1870, vol. 1, p. 86). In the Estimates published in March by the Macpherson administration, shortly before it lost office to McCulloch's administration in April, M's stores budget
was expected to be £350 (Victoria,
Parliamentary papers
1870 B 2, p. 12). For the overall impact of McCulloch's budget on the funds available to M, see notes to M to J. McCulloch, 3 May 1870.

Sir,
your obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller
