This morning, dear Mr Tulk, I intend to commence some preliminaries in reference to
arranging the collections of vegetable substances for the technological Museum.
At about 4 o'clock I will come in myself, and meet Mr Hoffmann there in the main
hall or annex and I should be obliged, if you would give Mr Hoffmann access in the
meanwhile, in order that he may commence an inventory with a view of scientific labelling
&c. I shall not stay until dusk but I hope that the byefollowing letter from the Chairman
of the Industrial Section of the Trustees
will be sufficient authority to give Mr Hoffmann & myself access to the building
at least during day hours. But I should like to know, whether in these long evenings
I could be allowed also access to the building with the object of working on the collections.
Pray let me say, that this task, however gladly I will perform it, as far as I can
among other duties, is not one of my own seeking. Pray tell Mr Hoffmann, where the
skilled work man, to whom the hon. Sam Bindon alludes, can be found

See M to J. MacPherson, 11 May 1870 (in this edition as 70-05-11d). M was evidently not proposing to wait for the general issue he had raised in that
letter to be resolved before commencing work on the collections.

Samuel Bindon. Letter not found.
