Would you be so very kind, dear Mr M'Pherson, to give me an opportunity to attend
at the
next meeting
of the trustees of the industrial Museum, in order that I may explain my views in
reference to the phytological collections to be formed and arranged as a section of
the Museum, and that some professional control may be allowed to me in reference to
this section. As I am not a trustee nor an officer of the public Library, I should
gladly arrange some plan of working with the trustees, and thus prevent sinking to
a position below the dignity, which I departmentally and scientifically occupy, a
dignity which I trust will be recognized.

On 14 May 1870, MacPherson minuted: 'Will the Chairman of the Committee be good enough
to bring the request of Dr Mueller before the Committee at its next sitting'.
I am, dear Mr M'Pherson,
your regardful
Ferd. von Mueller.
