MS written by a clerk, with the annotations in a different hand. The file includes another sheet with a less complete list of names, and without the salaries and annotations. List originally registered as V70/4978 on 11 May 1870; the register entry indicates that the item was sent in on 7 May; it also has a note dated 11 May, 'C. S. [Chief Secretary] approves of discharge of carpenter & carter', and another indicating that the file was returned to M the same day.
