Es liegt mir die angenehme Pflicht ob, edler Herr, Ihnen für die Übersendung der Acta der Universitet Lund sowie für die trefflichen Abhandlungen über die Algen Spitzbergens u andere wissenschaftliche Schriften meinen besten Dank auszusprechen. Die meiner Obhut anvertrauten Exemplare sind an die bestimmten Adressen befördert worden.
Mein Freund Ronald Gunn theilt mir mit, dass auf Ihren Wunsch Algen Tasmaniens zu besitzen, er Ihnen seine ganze Hauptsammlung geschickt habe. Das ist brav von dem alten Herrn, denn wem besser könnte er diese Pflanzen zuwenden, als Ihnen? Fast dachte ich, dass Ihre Algenstudien geendet wären. Nun aber will auch ich das Senden solcher Sachen an Sie wieder aufnehmen. Auch Herr Dr Sonder in Hamburg arbeitet augenblicklich an supplemental Algen Sammlungen unseres Continents, da sich doch noch immer das Eine oder andere Neue, namentlich an der Nordküste findet. Im Jahr 1872 wird auch das ganze Material Harveys, aus seinen Veröffentlichungen mit Sonders Supplementen u hoffentlich neuen Beiträgen von Ihnen englisch für die “Flora Austral.” zusammen gestellt werden müssen.
In einigen Monaten hoffe ich Ihnen den 7ten Band meiner Fragmenta vorlegen zu können.
Einstweilen arbeite ich hauptsächlich vorbereitend an den Monocotyledonen für die Flora Australiens.
Unser würdiger Consul J. B. Were hier hat mir indirect einen Wink gegeben, dass ihm eine Auszeichnung vom schwedischen König sehr ehrenvoll sein würde. Ich hatte mich für ihn verwandt um eine Decoration, wie der arme Baron von Cederström hier war, doch dieser junge Edelmann starb bevor er noch wieder sein Vaterland erreichte. Consul Were ist nun gegen 20 Jahre Consul hier für mehrere Länder ohne von irgend einem Hoffe eine Auszeichnung erlangt zu haben, während die Consule von Frankreich, Holland, Italien, Belgien decorirt sind. Möchten Sie so freundlich sein, mir einen Wink zu geben, ob sein Wunsch auf irgend eine Art am Hofe in Stockholm vorgebracht werden könne?
Von dem guten Prof Areschoug habe ich seit gar langer Zeit nicht gehört. Es ist möglich, dass ich im Schreiben rückständig bin; aber ich war lange kränklich u in dem jungen Lande hier lässt der Aufbau eines neuen Departements während der ersten Generation wenig Ruhe.

and other scientific publications. The copies entrusted to me have been forwarded to their respective addresses.
My friend Ronald Gunn informs me that, on your wish to have Tasmanian algae, he has sent you the whole of his main collection. That is very good of the old gentleman, for on whom better could he bestow these plants than you? I almost thought your algal studies had come to an end. But now I shall recommence sending such things to you. Dr Sonder of Hamburg also works at present on supplemental algae collections from our continent,

as one or another new species is still found now and then, especially at the north coast. In the year 1872 all of Harvey's material from his publications, with Sonder's supplements and, I hope, new contributions from you, will have to be collated in English for the Flora australiensis.

Despite M's continual urging, and his very positive statement here, no volumes dealing with the cryptogams were included in Bentham (1863-78).
In a few months I hope to be able to place the 7th volume of my Fragmenta before you.

I am meanwhile working mainly on preparing the monocotyledons for the Flora of Australia.
Our worthy Consul J. B. Were here has indirectly dropped a hint to me, that he would regard a decoration from the Swedish King a great honour. I had already used my influence for a decoration for him, when poor Baron von Cederström was here; but this young nobleman died before he reached his homeland again. Consul Were has been Consul for several countries here for about 20 years now, without ever having received a decoration from any of the Courts, while the consuls of France, Holland, Italy, and Belgium have all been decorated. Would you be so kind to give me a hint, whether his wish could be brought before the Court in Stockholm in some way?

I have not heard for a long time from the good Professor Areschoug. It is possible that I am in arrears with writing; but I was ailing for a long time, and in this young country here the establishment of a new department leaves little spare time during the first generation.
