Letter not found. The text given here (B71.12.02) is from Raveret-Wattel (1871). The quotations given are cited by Raveret-Wattel as from 'lettre du 22 March 1870'. The page numbers given in the notes below are to Bulletin de la Société Impériale Zoologique d'Acclimatation, series 2, vol. 8.
While the citation is to a letter, it is highly probable that the text is that of the 'mémoire de M. le docteur von Mueller' transmitted by the British Ambassador to Paris (see notes to M to J. McCulloch, 22 March 1873). Some parts of the presumed memorandum not directly quoted by Raveret-Wattel but attributed to M are assumed to come from the same source, but they are not extracted here, since as with letters or reports from a number of other authors, it is not always clear when the material based on information from the different contributors begins and ends. The sequence of the extracts here preserves their relative position in the article.

[Mr. Lissignol, the secretary of the Victorian Acclimatisation Society, advises to transplant the young trees only after the heat of summer. This is also the opinion of Dr. Müller:] As the seeds of many species are small, it is advisable to sow them on beds and to transplant the young subjects at the start of the cold season and rainy weather.
