Reimbursement had previously been requested in M to J. McCulloch, 15 August 1868, M to J. McCulloch, 20 January 1869 (in this edition as 69-01-20a), and M to J. McCulloch, 21 April 1869 (in this edition as 69-04-21b). On the first occasion the minutes show that there were no funds available. M asked again in M to J. MacPherson, 13 January 1870, and was finally reimbursed in June; see M to J. McCulloch, 3 June 1870 (in this edition as 70-06-03a).
