25th June 1869
My dear Dr Von Mueller,
I have the pleasure to inform you that at the meeting of the Council of the City of
Melbourne on Monday last a report from the Health Committee "informing the Council
in respect to boulder stones lying in Yarra Park and which the Council on the Committees
recommendation has ordered to be sold — that the stones were excavated by labor employed
by the Director of the Botanical Gardens in the expectation of being allowed to use
them;
and recommending that as the intention is to use them in the public grounds the instruction
for the sale be rescinded and the Director of the Botanical Gardens be allowed to
remove them for such use at any time within three months from this time" was adopted.
