I have to thank you, dear Prof. Asa Gray, for the kind transmission of the very valuable document,
1
A. Gray (1868).
which you, with you usual skill, have furnished on the plants of our friends Brewer and Bolander. It was transmitted with some dry plants of yours and poor Horace Mann's, by the poor lamenting mother of the latter. I will write to the poor Lady by this mail.
2
Mann, Gray's student and assistant, had died of tuberculosis; M's letter not found.
Dr. Engelmann sent also his critical Junci & the memoir he wrote thereon.
3
Engelmann (1868).
Enveying you of your Kew enjoyments I remain
your attached
Ferd. von Mueller
It seems Dr. Engelmann went to Europe. If so, will you kindly acknowledge the receipt of his Junci, when you happen to write, or give me his address
