You will be surprised, dear Mr Pascoe, that I did not acknowledge your last letter earlier. The delay arose from a desire of fulfilling your wishes, but I have no s this year as the seeds did not grow, nor can I secure any plants as yet in Melbourne trade, though I will continue the enquiry. I have however sent you 100 plants of , which you must consider a valuable gift, as the means of raising that tree are as yet limited and so many hundred institutions apply for it. Those sent are the largest I have, large enough to be planted out, if well surrounded with branches for shade and shelter, and if regularly watered during the summer. It would be a pity if they were lost.
I can send you seeds of the white cedar, which in a moist gardenplot you might easily raise.
It is very generous of you to send me the £1 for Schaefer. Accept his best thanks from me
With kind regards
Ferd. von Mueller
