I regret much, dear Mr Fitzgibbon, that you should have experienced inconvenience
in consequence of a well meant desire of mine, that one of the Boatmen should fence
his leased ground.
I fully share your views, that all public offices should act in harmony for the general
good, and when ever any misunderstandings arise to clear them off, and not assume
a hostile attitude towards each other. I was formerly always under the impression,
that the boathouse keepers were under the sole control of the Corporation, but in this I seem to have been wrong.
I saw again to day nine goats among my plants and almost despair to get free of them.
Next week I will try to put some more plants to the Yarra bank on your side. I suppose
I may get your two men for a few days to clean up the ground opposite the entrance
of the Sandridge road.

E. FitzGibbon to M, 3 May 1869, reported that the order to fence mentioned in M to E. FitzGibbon, 20 April 1869, had been countermanded by the Department of Crown Lands.
With best regards
Ferd. von Mueller.
