Some months earlier, M had advised Nordlinger to seek Joseph Hooker's help in obtaining freshly cut timber specimens but Hooker had been unable to help, leading Nordlinger to send Hooker's letter about this to Krauss with a request that he forward it to M (H. von Nordlinger to F. Krauss, 31 January 1869; RB MSS M3, Library, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne). The letters from M to Nordlinger and Hooker to Nordlinger have not been found.
