Letter not found; item is a register entry only. On 3 October 1866, Lieut.-Col. W. C. Trevor, 14th Regiment, wrote to the Chief Commissioner of Police, F. Standish: 'Some time ago I mentioned to you that the Botanical Reserve was infested with a gang of prostitutes: the British soldier being the attraction: you kindly sent a Policeman whom I saw walking them off.' He then alluded as above to the letter he had received from M and asked: 'Would you kindly allow a Policeman to take a look round some evening'. Standish sent Trevor's letter on 3 October to Superintendent Lyttleton with the instruction, 'Let a Const. be told off'; a further annotation from Sub-Inspector Ryall indicates that this had been done.
[Dr Mueller has been writing to me this morning with a complaint that as the cool nights are approaching their numbers [prostitutes] are increasing for the amusement of the soldiers.]
