MS written by Ernst Heyne and signed by M.
Dear Sir
I regret that I should have to trouble you again, with such trifles as chimneys for
the lamps, but it appears that the rain enters through some of the holes on top of
the lamps, a fact which only recently has been ascertained, and falling then on the
heated chimney the latter is sure to crack. We shall try whether stopping up these
holes will answer.

Two kerosene-operated street lamps for the Botanic Garden footbridge across the Yarra
river had been supplied by the City Council but operated by M's staff; see E. FitzGibbon to M, 22 May 1868 (in this edition as 68-05-22b).
I remain
Dear Sir
your obedient
Ferd. v Mueller.
