Sir
Sir I have to inform you that your letter enclosing one from Mrs Davenport
in which the enquiry is made on behalf of the Hon Samuel Davenport whether the Society can spare a pair of Angora goats was duly considered
by the Council at the meeting held yesterday The Council directs me to inform you in reply that whilst fully recognising the great
services rendered to acclimatisation by Mr Davenport it is compelled to decline the request in consequence of the existence of
a resolution in the Minute book declaring that no females can be parted with until
the Society's flock numbers at least two hundred.
The present number is only one hundred and fifty.

On 10 October 1867, Sprigg wrote to Ernst Heyne at the Botanic Garden saying: 'I have
the honor to acknowledge your letter of yesterday morning enquiring whether the Society
would part 1 buck & 10 ewes of the Angora goats to a gentleman in Queensland. In reply
I beg to state that the Council have decided not to part with any ewes to any person,
not even to residents of this colony, and they would therefore not entertain the proposition
for a moment.' [Unit 5, p. 476, VPRS 2225 outward letterpress copy books, Acclimatisation
