Temporary Town Hall
Western Market Melbourne
13th June 1868.
Sir,
Referring to your letter of the 19th ultimo wherein you asked permission to plant an elm tree opposite each set of rails of the S.E. approach to Princes Bridge,
1
In E FitzGeibbon to M, 19 May 1868 refers to ' the City Bridge' , an appellation used in the press, usually with lower case initial letters , when refering in a general way to the bridge between the B o tanic garden and the city ( e.g. Age (Melbourne), 16 June 1866, p. 5) , whereas 'Prince's-bridge' was common when referring to the specific structure, e.g. in a report of a suicide ( Argus , 27 June 1867, supplement p 1).
I have been directed by the Health Committee of the Council of the City of Melbourne to inform you that they have much pleasure in according the permission, and I am at the same time to thank you for the plantations which you have recently made in the locality.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most obedient servant
E. G. FitzGibbon
