I think by last mail I mentioned, dear Dr Hooker, that I had given a kind of promise
to supply sooner or later some plants for the Brit. Museum.
You are aware, that I hold the view of its being more important to have all the Great
collections rather at Kew; still it seems that to many metropolitan workers the collections
of the Brit. Mus. are a real boon. Now as long as the Museum has a phytographic branch
I feel morally bound to support it, and the thought has arisen, that Mr Carruthers
might pick out of the collections sent by me on loan a specimen of all such species
as the Brit Museum stand in need of, provided there are available duplicates, so as
not to break the series of forms and localities. Before I however write to Mr Bennett
I wish to consult you, in order that any such arrangement may not involve troubles
at Kew. This months mail brought no letter from you and Mr Bentham.
