Melbourne bot. Garden
17/4/68.
Dear Capt. Standish
A horse, which I used for several years mainly in Governments service has become unfit lately for further work, and as it would be a cruelty to destroy the poor brute, I venture to ask, whether it could be placed with the two others, which you were so kind to allow to pass the rest of their days at Dandenong.
1
Presumably the two horses mentioned in M to F. Standish, 14 July 1866.
With regardful salutation your
Ferd. von Mueller.
2
MS annotation by Standish: 'Seen'. There is, however, no indication as to whether M's request was acceded to.
