At a meeting of the Society on 23 April 1868, 'Mr Ulph stated that while in Melbourne
he had an interview with Dr Mueller when that gentleman urged upon him the advisability
of getting a reserve of land made for the purpose of propagation of certain valuable
plants which he was prepared to send over to Otago'.
