This refers to a dispute between the Society and the Commissioners of the Intercolonial
Exhibition held in Melbourne in 1866-7 over the policy relating to the awarding of
medals and certificates. According to the report of the meeting in the Argus, 15 August 1867, p. 5, M in his letter ‘regrett[ed] that he had been unable to affect
a settlement of the dispute between the commissioners of the Intercolonial Exhibition
and the exhibitors’. The meeting resolved ‘that the Hon. Sec. write to Dr Mueller
respecting his application for a settlement of the a/c outstanding with the Commissioners
of the Intercolonial Exhibition’; see J. Toon to M, 14 August 1867.
