To the Chairman & the Members of the public works Committee of the City Council.
Gentlemen,
Allow me to ask, whether you would raise any objections to my proposal, to close the fence line of the city bridge opposite the Sandridge road Entrance (on the eastern side)
and to allow a few rails to be put up from the boat houses to the Arch. By this arrangement
& the closing in of the fence below the Immigrants Home it would be possible for me
to remove the unsightly three rails fence out of the swamp. As now Yan-Yean-water
is available everywhere, there will be no necessity to have a watering place at the
City bridge. I would plant Willows & teatree & other suitable plants then near the Bridge, at an early date.

MS file annotation: 'Fence ordered to be done'. The council did not agree to all of
M's proposals; see E. FitzGibbon to M, 24 July 1867.
Your regardful
