On 5 April 1867, the Board of Governors of the Adelaide Botanic Garden 'resolved that
the Director proceed to Melbourne, for the purposes of the Garden and that he be allowed
£20 for travelling expenses.' (Minute book, p. 201, Library, Adelaide Botanic Gardens).
The minutes of the meeting of the Board of Governors held on 3 May 1867 record:
The Director reported the results of his journey to Melbourne stating that he had
been enabled through the kindness of Dr Mueller and private individuals to [make]
a large collection of plants and other things of great value to the Gardens and remarked
that the observations made by him on culture, arrangements regulations & both in Public
&c private Gardens Museums &c visited by him will be of great utility in future for
the benefit of this garden. The Director was instructed to write to Dr Mueller thanking
him for his courtesy and assistance to him during his stay in Melbourne such letter
to be signed by the chairman of this meeting.
