I have the honor to solicit, that you will be pleased to sanction the undermentioned sums to be advanced for the services in the botanic Garden during the early part of this year.

That is, before the Parliament had approved the estimates submitted. Approval was given on 10 April 1867 (Victoria. Votes and proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, 1867, p. 111).
I may be allowed to state, that I have already been obliged to defray many of the current expenses out of my private means. The sums, which I would beg to recommend to be placed at my disposal would be the following.
