Some accounts in the Melbourne press of the arrival in Victoria of the new Governor in August 1886 refer to him as Sir John Manners-Sutton, using his first given name (e.g. Herald, 13 August 1886, p. 2); others, however, reflected his preferred use of his second given name, referring to him as 'Sir J. Henry Manners Sutton' (Argus, 13 August 1866, p. 4).
