Sir John.

Some accounts in the Melbourne press of the arrival in Victoria of the new Governor
in August 1886 refer to him as Sir John Manners-Sutton, using his first given name
(e.g.
Herald, 13 August 1886, p. 2); others, however, reflected his preferred use of his second
given name, referring to him as 'Sir J. Henry Manners Sutton' (Argus, 13 August 1866, p. 4).
I have the honor to report to your Excellency, that Dr James Atkin White, a native
of Manchester, has been engaged as Surgeon to the Expedition sent out in search of Dr Leichhardts party,
and that this Officer proceeds to day by the Steamship City of Melbourne on his way to join the search party now stationed at Gilliot
Creek, Carpentaria.
