Memorandum of Agreement entered into this twenty seventh day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty six Between Donald Campbell of Glengower in the Colony of Victoria, Gentleman of the one part and Ferdinand Mueller M.D. Director of the Botanical Gardens Melbourne on behalf of the Ladies Committee of the Leichhardt Search Fund of the other part. Whereas by Articles of Agreement dated the 20 day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty five and made by or on behalf of Duncan M'Intyre of Glengower aforesaid of the one part and the said Ferdinand Mueller on behalf of the Ladies Committee of the Leichhardt Search Fund of the other part the said Duncan M'Intyre for the consideration therein mentioned undertook to furnish provisions and lead a party to consist of not less than eight persons to go in search of Dr Leichhardt's Exploring party which had not been heard of since the year one thousand eight hundred and fourty eight, And whereas it was intended that the said Duncan M'Intyre and party should carry on their search after the said Dr Leichhardt for a period of not less than two years unless sufficient evidence should be previously obtained as to the inutility or fruitlessness of further search; And whereas in pursuance of such agreement the said Duncan M'Intyre on or about the fifth day of Septemb one thousand eight hundred and sixty five started from the Upper Darling-River with a party duly equipped and provisioned upon such search but the said Duncan M'Intyre departed this life on or about the fourth day of June last, And whereas the said Donald Campbell who is the uncle of the said Duncan M'Intyre is desirous that the said search shall be continued for the remainder of the said period of two years and has agreed with the said Ferdinand Mueller as follows.

months from the date of this agreement such party to consist of not less than eight men and to start from the place where the said Duncan M'Intyre died.
2.) That Mr W. F. Sloman who was left in command by the said Duncan M'Intyre at his decease shall have command of the party so to be reorganized, subject nevertheless to the directions and orders of Mr Donald M'Intyre of Gilliot River and in case the said W. F. Sloman declines to take such command or to act under the directions of the said Donald M'Intyre, then the said Donald M'Intyre shall have the power of appointing any other person whom he may deem eligible and competent to command the said party and proceed to carry out the said search.
3) That all the stores and equipments, horses and arms which were under the control of the said Duncan M'Intyre at the time of his decease and whether purchased by his own funds or by the funds of the said Ladies Committee shall be at the service and disposal of the said Sloman or such other person as the said Donald M'Intyre may appoint and of the party whom the said W. F. Sloman or such person may command for the purpose of the said search.
4.) That the said Donald Campbell will at his own expense make every effort to provide a duly qualified Surgeon to accompany the said Search party.
5.) That the said Donald Campbell or his executors or administrators will at the termination of the said expedition keep the Dromedaries or Camels which have been lent by the Government of Victoria for the purposes of the said first expedition at his Station called the Gulph Station for the period of six months and communicate with the said Government upon or before the arrival at such station of the said Dromedaries or Camels so that arrangements may be made for the disposal of the same.
7.) That in consideration of the said Donald Campbell performing the before mentioned particulars the said Ferdinand Mueller agrees out of the funds which may at any time be in the hands or under the control of the said Ladies Committee to pay the said Donald Campbell the sum of One thousand two hundred pounds in quarterly payments of three hundred pounds each, the first quarterly payment to be made the […]
