Nur ein paar eilige Zeilen schreibe ich diesen Morgen, theuerer Dr Haast, um Ihnen zu sagen, dass das Packet lieblicher Pflanzen, was Sie meinem Departement schenkten mir heute durch Hr Chevalier gebracht wurde u so auch die schön erhaltenen Wurzeln des schild-blättrigen Ranunkels.

Es freute mich innig von Hr Chevalier zu hören dass sich Ihre gute Gemahlin besser befinde. Mit dem zurückkehrenden warmen Wetter wird sie hoffentlich ganz genesen.

Ich habe manches zu senden und will bald weitläufig schreiben.

I am only writing a few hurried lines this morning, dear Dr Haast, to tell you that the packet of lovely plants you gave to my Department was brought to me today by Mr Chevalier,

The artist Nicholas Chevalier returned to Melbourne in August 1866 after almost nine months' painting in New Zealand.

also in excellent condition the rootstock of the buttercup with the shield-shaped leaves.

I am sincerely pleased to hear from Mr Chevalier that your good wife is feeling better. With the returning warm weather she will, I hope, recover completely.

I have a few things to send and shall soon write again at greater length.
