McCulloch's inward correspondence register includes an entry dated 29 June 1866, ' Dr Mueller to be asked for catalogue of books purchased from him'. No indication is given as to who asked for this request to be made, but it was done; see J. Moore to M, 29 June 1866. A catalogue had in fact been included in M to J. McCulloch, 30 September 1865, and had been published (B65.10.01). M's reply to the present inquiry was referred back to him on 6 July 1866 annotated: 'if the books are not open to the
public they ought to be'. The file was recalled to the Chief Secretary's Department
on 29 August 1873; see also M to J. Francis, August 1873 (in this edition as 73-08-00).
