editorial addition.
Sir
I have the honor by direction of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society to inform
you that the building in the Royal Park lately used as a temporary lunatic asylum
is now vacant, but it is stated to be the intention of the Government again to employ
it for a similar purpose.
At the time the lunatics were first placed there namely two years ago the Trustees
of the Park were informed that the accommodation was only required for a short time
and the Council thought that perhaps the Trustees would wish to address the Government
upon the subject now that an opportunity occurs.

On 25 June 1866, Sprigg also wrote to Dr Thomas Black, President of the Acclimatisation
Society of Victoria, as the Trustees of the Royal Park were about to have a meeting,
to express his opposition to the use of the Powder Magazine building as a 'Temporary
Lunatic Asylum', pointing out that the building was dangerous and unsuitable for such
a purpose and that it was impossible to stop inmates from escaping [Unit 5, p. 78,

I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most Obedt Servant
