Letter not found. The text given here is from the report of the meeting of the Canterbury (NZ) Acclimatisation Society held on 30 June 1866 (Lyttelton times, 14 July 1866, p. 4). The report also stated that the Society had received a pair of Californian quail from M. The meeting was also reported in the Australasian , 11 August 1866, p. 583.
[A letter was read from Dr. Mueller , announcing the receipt of £5, for the purchase of birds , and acknowledging the receipt of some seeds. He recommended the employment of black swans for the purpose of keeping down the water-cress. The writer states that January is the best time for the transmission of the birds , as that is the month in which they change their plumage.]
