Es ist doch recht traurig, liebster Freund, dass Ihre arme Gemahlin so unwohl gewesen. Ich war auch wieder leidend u kann so um so mehr mit Ihnen empfinden. Sollten Sie sich aufs neue fest häuslich niederlassen, so lassen Sie mir das Privilegium, Sie mit Pflanzen für Ihren neuen Garten zu versehen.

Herzlichen Dank für die Samen der u für das gütige Versprechen aufs Neue unsere phytologische Staatssammlung bereichern zu wollen.

Der arme Prinz Condé ist nun auch dahin. Murchison hatte ihm einen Brief an mich gegeben u so war ich wenigstens um diesen geistreichen u gelehrten jungen Prinzen während der wenigen Stunden seines Aufenthalts hier.

It is very sad, dearest friend, that your poor wife has been so unwell. I was also ill again and thus can sympathise with you all the more. Should you move once more into a permanent home, please allow me the privilege of providing you with the plants for your new garden.

Haast had bought his house in Christchurch through Travers shortly after his marriage (25 June 1863) and named it 'Glückauf'. He lived there for a decade and all his children were born there. See H. F. von Haast (1948), p. 323.

Poor Prince Condé is now also gone.

Murchison had given him a letter for me, so that I at least spent the few hours of his sojourn here with this clever and scholarly young Prince.
