I am very much obliged to Mr Buchanan,
for the trouble he has taken in securing the material.
1
John
Buchanan (1819-1898).
I have a fair herbarium of N.Z. plants, most useful for critical comparison in the
examination of Australian plants. Still it is far from completely representing the
species and varieties of the flora of your beautiful islands. I do not know whether
Mr Buchanan is forming a state herbarium also of extra-native plants. If so I will
gladly contribute towards it & I could thus in interchange enrich also our state collection
here.
I am much in want of a case full of seedlings of any Coniferous plant of N.Z for this
garden & I would gladly send in return whatever might be needed from my establishment.
The Knightia is also best transferred by seedlings. Our garden here does not possess
this elegant tree.
I am, dear & honored Sir, your regardful
Ferd. Mueller F.R.S.
The Hon. Jam. Crawford
