Es ist meine Pflicht, edler Herr, Sie von Allem, was auf die Aufsuchung Leichhardts Bezug hat, unterrichtet zu halten. Der ritterliche Sir Rod Murchison hat auf meine Vorstellung hin seinen mächtigen Einfluss ausgeübt und von der hehren Königin Britaniens nicht nur die freundlichsten Ausdrücke für das Unternehmen der Damen entgegen genommen, sondern auch das edle Gefühl Ihrer Majestät, stets teutonischen Interessen hold, tief berührt u den munificenten Beitrag von £100 für den Aufsuchungsfond von der Königin freiwillig zugesichert erhalten. In der königl. geograph Gesellschaft hat Sir Roderick, durch Viscount Strangford u Mr Hamilton unterstützt, vorgeschlagen, dass £200 bewilligt werde als Subsidie zu dem Unternehmen u. dies wurde einstimmig angenommen. Für die Damen ist diese Recognition in Europa für die Expedition von der höchsten Wichtigkeit, denn sie übt eine solche Rückwirkung auf die Regierungen der australischen Colonien u die wohlhabenden Colonisten aus, dass damit die nöthige Geldhülfe gesichert ist, für künftige Zeiten. Die Damen werden nun nicht bloss den menschenfreundlichen Original Zweck der Aufsuchung durchführen, sondern auch wahrscheinlich durch ihre Emissaire die grossen Fragen lösen können, welche Leichhardt in den innern Westen Australiens zogen. Mit einer Revenue von fast zehn Millionen Pf. St. der Gesammtcolonien Australiens können die Regierungen doch wohl £1500 jedes Jahr auf eine fortdauernde Expedition verwenden um die Karte Australiens vollenden zu lassen. Dies soll für die Damen Expedition, nachdem Leichhardts Geschick erkundet die zweite Aufgabe sein u das wird dann das von Leichhardt ersehnte Werk vollenden.

not only the most kindly expressions in favour of the ladies' enterprise,

but also deeply touched the noble sentiments of Her Majesty, who is always kindly disposed towards teutonic interests, and obtained from the Queen the voluntary assurance of the munificent contribution of £100 towards the search fund. Sir Roderick, seconded by Viscount Strangford and Mr Hamilton, has proposed to the Royal Geographical Society, that £200 be granted as a subsidy for the enterprise, and this was unanimously accepted. This recognition of the expedition in Europe is of the greatest importance for the ladies, as it has such repercussions on the Governments of the Australian Colonies and the wealthy colonists, that with it the necessary financial support is secured also for the future. The ladies will now carry out not only the original philanthropic purpose of the search, but through their emissaries will probably also be able to solve the great questions, which drew Leichhardt to the interior of Western Australia. With a revenue of almost 10 million pounds sterling for all the Australian colonies combined they can surely afford £1,500/—/— per annum towards an on-going expedition, to have the map of Australia completed. This is to be the second task for the ladies' expedition, after Leichhardt's fate has been discovered, and that will then complete the work Leichhardt had longed for.
