Honorable and dear Sir.
I am most eager to show to you as Chief of the establishment under my control, what
improvements have been effected of late and how extensive the operations are, in which
I am engaged.
It would be scarcely possible to obtain an adequate idea of the multifarious work
of the department, unless you would kindly grant me about two hours of your most valuable
time for an inspection of the Garden and its scientific appendages. May I ask then
the favor to honor me with a visit on Saturday afternoon or on Sunday next? If you
could kindly spare the time, pray appoint the hours when I may here wait on you.

M's invitation was clearly prompted by earlier correspondence with McCulloch; see
M to J. McCulloch, 25 February 1866 (in this edition as 66-02-25a) and notes thereto.
Very regardfully
your
Ferd. Mueller

McCulloch minuted that M be asked 'to meet me here on Saturday at 11.15'.
