Dear Sir Redmond
I intend, if my departmental means admit, to employ the bearer in my establishment
to assist me in getting some vegetable articles prepared for the exhibition.
I would be desirable, that Mr Hoffmann, who was assistant to Prof Hoffmann of London,
should have access to the various works of technological chemistry in the public library,
to read up on some theoretical & practical points. Would you do me the favor of granting
him access to the Library in the interest of the exhibition?

Presumably the Intercolonial Exhibition of Australasia, Melbourne, 1866.

On 24 November 1865, Barry instructed: 'Mr Tulk will be so good as to admit this Gentleman if the state of the Library will allow him to read'.
Regardfully
your
Ferd Mueller
