M’s letter not found. The text given here is from 'Australian Ferns', Sydney morning herald, 31 October 1865, p. 4, footnote, column a. It is a note to a discussion of the identity of a puzzling fern. The letter is dated to October 1865 as the most likely date that it would have been written to appear as a note to the article.
[Since writing the above, I forwarded to Dr. F. Mueller a specimen of this fern which I had previously received from Mr. Macgillivray, who collected it at the Clarence River. The Doctor regards it as a form of
Hypolepis tenuifolia
