The Queensland Acclimatisation Society had sent M, for the Melbourne Botanic Garden, roots of jalap, and a separate letter had evidently been sent to the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria informing them of this.
See B72.13.02, p. 313, under Ipomoea purga, the 'true Jalop', and I. simulaus (i.e. simulans); the roots and seeds received by the Queensland Society and shared with M were those from Mexico, 'the true Jalop' (Brisbane courier, 25 July 1865, p. 3). In a letter to L. Bernays dated 28 September 1865, Sprigg thanked him for the roots of jalap from the Queensland Acclimatisation Society and reported they were doing well in M's care.
M to L Bernays,18 September 1865, is M's personal acknowledgement 'on behalf of the Acclimatisation Society'.
