I intended, dear Sir William, to have sent you my departmental Report by this mail & the 34 No of the Fragmenta.

B65.10.01, B65.10.04.
Of both I have proof but they are not ready for this mail. By next mail I shall have some plates again to send. The enclosed seed would be worth particular attention. The spinage is really excellent.
Nothing has been done respecting Prof Lindleys library. I believe the best plan would be to adress his Excellency Sir Charl Darling through Mr Cardwell on the subject.
I wished I could secure the herbarium too. If so I should possess one of the most extensive & important collections of dry plants anywhere.

See M to W. Hooker, 20 August 1865, and M to W. Hooker, 25 August 1865 (in this edition as 65-08-25a). Hooker died on 12 August, before these letters were written. See Lucas (2008).
Regardfully

Could your noble garden spare me a plant in a Wardian Case of ? This tree is a favorite for shading roadsides in Egypt & we should have the tree finally all over Australia.
