Letter not found. The text given here is from Brisbane courier, 13 September 1865, p. 3 (B65.09.03). The letter is introduced as follows: ‘The following extract taken from a letter written by Dr. Ferdinand Mueller, of Melbourne, to a friend in Sydney, will be read with interest by those who have exerted themselves in the Leichhardt Search'.
This day Mr. M'Intyre has announced his first meeting with Dr. Murray, and taking command of the party, at Mount Murchison.

Darling River, NSW. McIntyre's letter not found. He was at Mt Murchison when Murray and party arrived there on 21 August 1865 (D. Lewis (2013), p. 100, citing a letter from McIntyre to James Hamilton, 24 August 1865).
Unfortunately the dreadful drought has emaciated all the poor animals of burden to such an extent that on some fine country, several hundred miles north, the party is compelled to rest before finally taking the field of exploration and search. Mr. M'Intyre

writes that there has been for a long time past no rainfall. The recruiting camp of the search party, before setting out, will be at about 27 degrees 40 minutes south, and 143 degrees 20 minutes east.
