My dear Sir, —
You will be glad to learn that a motion I had the pleasure to bring forward in the
Queensland House of Assembly, for a vote of £1,000 in aid of the 'Leichardt Search Fund,' was carried by a large majority.

For a report of the debate on 4 July, including the opposition arguments, see 'The Leichhardt Search Fund',
Brisbane courier, 5 July 1865, p. 3; the motion was carried in a Division by 19 votes to 7.
As one interested, both in the fate of Leichardt and in the prosperity of Queensland,
you will be gratified that such a tribute has been paid to the memory of your friend
and countryman, and that, while assistance so substantial has been added to the generous
efforts stimulated by yourself and others in Victoria and in South Australia to prosecute
the intended search, Queensland, true to the
prestige
she has acquired for intelligence and enterprise, has not been unmindful of the great
benefits she has derived from the successful labours of her earliest and most intrepid
explorer.
Believe me, my dear Sir, yours very truly,
Gordon Sandeman.
Dr. Mueller, F.R.S., &c.
