Letter not found. The text given here is from a report of a meeting of the subscribers to the Leichhardt Search Fund, held in the Rockhampton Court House, 14 July 1871 ( Rockhampton bulletin and Central Queensland advertiser , 15 July 1871, p. 2).
[Monsieur Thozet read an extract from a letter from Dr. Mueller, dated Melbourne, 30th May, expressing the gratification of the ladies of the Leichhardt Search Committee, in Melbourne, at the vivid interest evinced by the Rockhampton Committee in their efforts to raise funds, and the prominent position assumed by the friends in Rockhampton by memorialising the Governor to cause a sum of money to be placed on the Estimates in aid of the Search Fund.]

The passage concluded: 'This showed that the efforts of the Rockhampton Committee had been duly appreciated long before any action was taken in the matter in Brisbane.'
